Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD)

The Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD) 2010 being held in Montpellier, France from 28-31 March 2010 will provide a global action plan and strategy for improving agricultural research in order to make maximum impact on development, especially of the poor. GCARD is being organized by the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR) www.egfar.org/egfar/website/gcard/aboutGCARD.

 
The Alliance office of CGIAR has an active role in the GCARD 2010 with its representatives members of the GCARD Task force and GCARD Working Group, and engaged in the Regional Consultations as well.

Each GCARD Conference will be preceded by a series of consultations conducted at regional and global levels to capture the contributions and perspectives of all stakeholders in the agricultural research, education and development systems. This will reshape the global agricultural research for development agenda and centre it on the needs of the poor in developing countries.
 

As part of the GCARD process a series of regional face-to-face meetings have been arranged as follows:

- September 29th     Brussels, Belgium    Europe;

- October  5 -7        Accra, Ghana           Africa;

- October 16 -17     Tashkent,Uzbekistan Central Asia and the Caucuses;

- October 19 - 21    Cali, Colombia          Latin America;

- October 30 -31     Bangkok                   Asia and the Pacific;

- November 10 -12  Alexandria, Egypt      Near East and Northern Africa;

In carrying out this major undertaking, GFAR will be reaching out to all stakeholders in AR4D, working through its constituent agencies and networks, which include: the six Regional Research Fora (FARAEFARDAARINENAFORAGROAPAARI,CACAARI), who represent National Agricultural Research Systems, the Alliance of CGIAR centres, the FAOIFAD, and representatives of farmers (IFAP), civil society, the private sector and donor agencies.
